Technical Writing
The Leonard Group has produced a wide array of written deliverables conforming to a variety of style manuals, including GPO, Chicago Manual of Style, APA, Microsoft Style, and others, as well as conforming to specific client style and directives. We are experts in simplifying documents, either through rewriting in simpler language or by utilizing a format and document design that promotes the usage and utility of the content.
For instance, the Vibration Generator Operating Guide (Wilcoxon Research, Inc.) was originally written by mechanical engineers with little or no training in communication, and the Software Distributors Policy Guide (U.S. Postal Service) contained detailed technical information by software engineers. In both cases, we were required to present technical information for use by the layperson. The goal for each was identical: for anyone in those respective environments to be able to use the manuals in an efficient and productive manner.
Also, we designed and edited the Independent Agency Response for the DC Protective Services Division, which explained the required emergency response actions for all independent agencies in the DC government. The information contained in that document must be easily found and understood in very difficult situations.
Business Writing
No matter what type of business writing you need, The Leonard Group can deliver. We have experience in writing, editing, and designing a wide array of deliverables: web content, marketing brochures, proposals, newsletters, video scripts, consumer booklets, corporate capabilities documents, and more.
Examples of our work in this area include a series of mail fraud consumer and business booklets for the U.S. Postal Service, a quarterly newsletter for the IT staff at the Veterans Administration, and a re-design and conversion to CD-ROM of the U.S. Navy Personnel Manual. Our proposal writing and consulting services have been used by companies such as Executive Perspectives, LLC; HP; EduTech; ISI Professional Services; and others.
Historical Writing
Some of our historical research clients require a written report of our findings. We produce these reports according to the requirements and style conventions dictated by the client. For instance, after conducting the research, we wrote a 50-page report about the salvage operations following the attack on Pearl Harbor for two boats—the USS California and the USS West Virginia. Both ships were restored to active duty. Our report included photos and documents pertaining to the salvage effort.
