“History Matters” — Laurel Pop Festival
One month before Woodstock in 1969, the two-day Laurel Pop Festival was held at the Laurel Race Course. The festival hosted some of the biggest acts of the year, such as Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, Jethro Tull, Sly & the Family Stone, and others. Closing night came to an end when wet and cold concertgoers burned chairs in a bonfire to get warm. Published in the Laurel Leader on Dec. 27, 2012.
